Best Products to Use After a Facial
A simple breakdown of what to use on your skin after a facial so you stay calm, hydrated, and clear without undoing the work we just did.
If your skin gets irritated after treatment, it is usually not because you need more products. It is because you need fewer, better-timed ones.
Quick Answer
For the first 24 to 48 hours after a facial, keep it simple: gentle cleanser if needed, a calm moisturizer, and sunscreen.
Skip scrubs and strong actives. After that, you can layer in toners, serums, and mild exfoliants to help maintain your results.
The First 24 Hours: Keep It Extremely Simple
Right after your facial, your skin has already done a lot. The goal is to support it, not challenge it.
- Cleansing: only if you need to remove sweat or city grime later that day
- Moisturizer: something calm, protective, and non-irritating
- SPF: every morning, even if it is cloudy
- Avoid: scrubs, peels, retinol, and at-home treatments
If you are not sure, default to less. Your barrier will handle that better than a crowded routine.

Gentle Cleansers I Trust After a Facial
These are the cleansers I reach for when skin needs to stay comfortable after treatment.
-
Valcreme Concentrated Cleansing Cream (Christine Valmy)
Creamy and non-stripping. Ideal for dry, dehydrated, or sensitized skin that needs comfort more than intensity. -
Valcleanse Oily Skin Cleansing Cream (Christine Valmy)
A better fit for oilier or more congested skin that still needs a gentle reset instead of harsh stripping. -
Active Face Wash (EiR NYC)
A plant-based cleanser that gives a deeper clean with a softer finish, not that tight, over-washed feeling.
Moisturizers and Serums for Post-Facial Comfort
Right after your facial, your skin usually needs barrier support and hydration more than anything else.
Daytime Comfort and Protection
-
Ecran Daytime Protection and Moisturizing Lotion (Christine Valmy)
Helps reduce the tight, uncomfortable feeling that can show up with cold air, indoor heat, and environmental stress. -
Special Lotion 22 Daytime Protection and Moisturizing Lotion (Christine Valmy)
Lightweight daytime moisture that keeps skin comfortable without adding heavy shine, especially if you lean combination or oily.
Nighttime Repair and Softening
AHAs and other actives should usually wait at least a couple of nights after your facial unless I tell you otherwise.
-
Special Creme 11 Conditioning Night Cream (Christine Valmy)
A strong option when dryness and congestion show up together and the skin needs support overnight. -
Embryoval AHA Nighttime Moisturizing Lotion (Christine Valmy)
Helps soften texture and brighten dullness. Best reintroduced a few nights after your facial, not the same day. -
Face Rescue Serum (EiR NYC)
A hydrating botanical serum that adds comfort under moisturizer without feeling heavy or greasy.
Toners and Exfoliation: When to Add Them Back
Most of the time, you can reintroduce gentle toners and mild exfoliants a few nights after your facial, as long as your skin feels calm.
-
5.5 pH Toner Nighttime Toner (Christine Valmy)
Helps bring the skin back to a more comfortable pH after cleansing and supports nighttime recovery. -
Cell Refresh Hydrating AHA Exfoliation Lotion (Christine Valmy)
Gently smooths texture and brightens dullness without aggressive peeling. Use on nights you are not using Embryoval or other active formulas.
If you are using any AHA or exfoliating product, avoid layering multiple actives on the same night unless I have specifically recommended that for you.
For Body Tension and Recovery
A facial is still part of a full-body experience. If you deal with soreness or tension, this is one product I like for comfort beyond the face.
-
Cooling Butter (EiR NYC)
A soothing balm for muscles, tension, and mild irritation. Helpful for tight shoulders, neck, or legs after long days.
What to Avoid Right After a Facial
- Scrub cleansers or harsh physical exfoliants
- Strong at-home peels or masks
- Layering multiple acid products
- Starting a new retinol the same night
- Heavy, pore-clogging makeup directly after treatment
