Beyond Memorizing the Wheel

Learn to see what color is doing—not simply name it

Color theory is not separate from makeup technique. It influences foundation matching, corrective color, eye design, lip color, blush, contour, photographic balance, character work, and the emotional effect of a finished look.

This workshop connects formal color principles to real makeup decisions so you can evaluate color with greater accuracy and use it intentionally across different skin tones, products, lighting conditions, and creative directions.

The Workshop Goal

Replace uncertain color choices with a repeatable decision process

You will study the language of color, learn to evaluate relationships, and apply those principles through practical cosmetic examples and guided exercises.

What You Will Study

The color principles behind professional makeup decisions

The workshop moves from foundational color language into undertone, correction, harmony, and practical planning.

01 · Foundations

Understanding Color

Explore visible color, the distinction between light and pigment, and the practical roles of RGB, CMYK, and RYB in makeup, photography, printing, and digital reference.

02 · Structure

The Professional Color Wheel

Study the twelve-hue RYB wheel, including primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, warm and cool relationships, and the terminology artists use to describe color placement and interaction.

03 · Properties

Hue, Value & Intensity

Understand how a color’s identity, lightness or darkness, and saturation affect how it reads on skin and how tint, tone, and shade alter a cosmetic color.

04 · Relationships

Color Harmony

Build intentional palettes using complementary, analogous, triadic, split-complementary, and monochromatic relationships, then translate those systems into wearable and creative makeup.

05 · Complexion

Skin Undertones

Evaluate warm, cool, neutral, and olive undertones across varied skin depths and understand how undertone affects foundation, blush, contour, lip, and eye color choices.

06 · Correction

Corrective Color

Select green, yellow, peach, orange, lavender, and related correctors according to the discoloration, skin depth, product strength, placement, and amount of coverage required.

07 · Application

Choosing Color

Consider skin tone, undertone, eye color, wardrobe, lighting, medium, mood, character, and creative direction when building a complete color story.

08 · Planning

Applying Color Harmony

Translate abstract harmony systems into specific cosmetic placement through eye looks, complexion choices, lip color, and complete face-chart planning.

How the Session Works

Four hours of theory, demonstration, visual analysis, and practice

The workshop is designed to move color theory out of abstraction and into decisions you can apply in real makeup work.

Part I

Color Foundations & Professional Language

We establish the color models and vocabulary needed to discuss pigment accurately, including hue, value, intensity, tint, tone, shade, temperature, and saturation.

Part II

The Color Wheel & Harmony Systems

You work with the professional RYB wheel and examine how complementary, analogous, triadic, split-complementary, and monochromatic relationships affect cosmetic color design.

Part III

Undertone & Corrective Color

We apply color relationships to complexion work by evaluating undertones, discoloration, corrector depth, product strength, and the difference between neutralizing and visibly covering.

Part IV

Practical Color Planning

The workshop concludes with guided color selection and planning exercises that connect harmony, skin tone, eye color, mood, context, and placement into a complete makeup design.
